Pirates News · Hart Wrestlers Have Big Week at Regionals, Headed To State

Hart Wrestling very good night on Wednesday at Team Regionals. They started out the night against state ranked Kingsley and defeated them 43-22 then advanced to the finals and defeated Boyne City 60-5. The boys have wrestled well all year together and stepped it up to win a regional title in their home gym. They wrestled well in both our wins and losses gaining bonus points where possible and also limiting bonus points in our losses. It would was good to see them perform like they have all season in front of a home crowd in a regional finals.Winning a regional title in a home gym has not been done in over 30 years. The team really feeds off of each other and have been fun to coach this season. The win by this team has given the program a well need push to keep getting better.

The boys really finished well on Saturday qualifying 10 wrestlers out of 12 to the individual regional finals. Hart had 2 champions Trayce Tate(119) and Mason Cantu(145), One second place Thomas Tanner(160), three third places Trenton Swihart(112), Spencer Vanderzwaag(130), and Chance Alvesteffer, and four fourth place finishes Bryce Jorissen(103), Austin Martinez(125), Leo Guadarrama(189), Braeden Carskadon. Koy Bronkema(125) and Zane Thomas won matches on the day but fell short of moving forward.

Another well deserved award was given , assistant coach Rocky Smith was voted regional assistant coach of the year.

The Pirates are headed to the team state finals on Tuesday and the Individual state finals on Friday. Both events will be held at Wings stadium in Kalamazoo. Seating is limited due to Covid restrictions.
